In May 2008, Entertainment Tonight cameras were granted rare access to the set of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, the long-awaited second feature film in the X-Files franchise. The visit gave fans their first glimpse behind the scenes of the highly anticipated production, reuniting David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Behind the Scenes of X-Files: I Want to Believe

The Entertainment Tonight set visit captured the mood on set — a mix of nostalgia and excitement as cast and crew returned to characters they had not played together on screen since the series finale in 2002. David Duchovny described the experience of returning to Mulder as both comfortable and fresh, noting that the character had evolved with the passing years.

Gillian Anderson and Duchovny were seen filming in British Columbia, Canada, where much of the movie was shot. The wintry, remote landscapes provided an atmospheric backdrop for the standalone thriller storyline, which creator Chris Carter deliberately kept separate from the alien mythology arc of the original series.

The Film's Release

The X-Files: I Want to Believe was released on July 25, 2008, to a warm reception from dedicated fans of the franchise. The film explored themes of faith, redemption, and the enduring partnership between Mulder and Scully, and featured Billy Connolly in a key supporting role.
