David Duchovny Promotes The TV Set – April 2007
The TV Set (2006), directed by Jake Kasdan, starred Duchovny as a television writer struggling to keep his creative vision intact as network executives systematically dilute his script. The film was a sharp, knowing satire of the television industry and drew on Duchovny's own long experience navigating Hollywood's commercial pressures.
The April 2007 promotional appearances captured here were taped in quick succession:
- David Letterman (April 10) — Duchovny appeared on the Late Show discussing the film's themes and his take on the television business. Preserved as a zipped MPEG file (83.9 MB).
- Live with Regis and Kelly (April 11) — A lighter, more conversational appearance exploring both the film and his career more broadly. Zipped MPEG file (88 MB).
- The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (April 12) — Duchovny and Ferguson had easy, witty chemistry in this late-night conversation. Preserved as a zipped Real Media file (65.7 MB).
Preserving Fan Archives
These recordings were captured and hosted by dedicated DuchovnyNet volunteers at a time before on-demand streaming made archiving trivial. They remain valuable records of Duchovny's public persona during an important transitional period in his career — between The X-Files era and the beginning of Californication.
